Continuing the themes of “shame” and “I’m old enough to…” from my last post:

I’m old enough to remember when the War on Poverty was a war on poverty itself, i.e. seeking out and attacking the causes of poverty. We’re still conducting a war, but thanks to the cruelty and heartlessness of those in power, it’s on the poor themselves.
