A Gift Oxymoron

A BlogSnax© post

[I was agonizing over possible subjects for today’s post. (Not really agonizing; I’m just going for dramatic effect here to appeal to readers.) I maintain a file of potential ideas on my computer that’s now several hundred lines long. (It’s actually 1671 lines but that includes blank lines and ideas I’ve already used.) It grows on an almost daily basis because my brain works overtime. (As explained in this post among many others.) Today it won’t go down at all because this one literally dropped in my lap today. (That’s a lie, too, and an egregious misuse of the word “literally”. It literally dropped into my mailbox. Close enough.) Well, here it is. (With no more parenthetical qualifiers.)]

A packet of coupons came in the mail. I was staggered by the wording on the one pictured here:

Yes, you too can save 10% on “luxury essentials”. What the heck is that?!? Only in 21st century America can one refer to luxuries as essentials. As a moral 3rd world country, we’ve completely lost our bearings. Besides, if you’re buying luxuries, should you really be worrying about saving a measly 10%?

Nothing here makes sense.

It suits the current cultural climate completely. (And it’s a perfect opportunity for that four part alliteration. Sorry about the extra parenthetical. Evidently I lied about that, too.)

Your turn...
